Her Take

July 25, 2007 - it was just like any ordinary day except that it’s my birthday. Jay invited me to go out for a dinner at Zest, a mexican-style restobar. I usually expect a lunch or dinner date when its my birthday, but today is quite unusual as it has been a long time since we last dined at this place.
After the dinner, we got to the spot where we had one of our first dates, and started to remind him about it when I looked beside me and realized he was getting a small blue box out of his pocket! I’ll never forget the look in his eyes as he asked me to be with him for the rest of our lives. I still get a lump in my throat when I think about it!
Carrying a dozen of red roses and with a beautiful diamond ring on my finger, he held my hand and walked across the Ebisu garden as we begin to talk about the exciting plans we have on our wedding.

His Take

I have already purchased the ring sometime in March and intended to give it to her on our anniversary day (as boyfriend-girlfriend) but since I don’t want her to anticipate it I decided to give it on her birthday instead.

I have lots of venues in mind for the proposal. I first considered LaQua(Kourakuen) where we used to celebrate our monthsary in Bubba Gump. But I wanted something romantic with perfect lighting and setup so I thought of Ebisu Garden Place where we had one of our first dates.

The place has a landscape surrounded by trees and fountains running on both sides of the central square, and in the evening they are being illuminated which gives a romantic ambiance. “This is perfect.” I thought.

Well, little did Revie know, but so many things happened trying to set up that day. I was so aware that it’s the BIG day coz my friends and colleagues in the office are eagerly talking about it and even seemed as excited as me. They kept asking, “Jay, do you have the ring with you?”. Then my boss asked, “Do you already practiced what you’re going to say?”. Aaargh. I took a deep breath and relaxed, I knew everything is under control. When I went out for lunch I bought a bouquet of red roses and made a reservation at the restaurant.

Finally, office hours was over and as I’ve told her the previous day, we met at the Ebisu station. I knew that when we meet she wouldn’t have the slightest clue, but still I was pretty nervous especially on her reaction. We then went to the restaurant and before she sat down, I kissed her and gave her the flowers as I greeted her “Happy Birthday”. We then had our meal while exchanging our usual talks and giggles. After that, I asked her to go with me in the innermost place in Ebisu Garden - the Palace.

I was actually thinking of the usual act where a guy is down on one knee but as I removed the small blue box from my pocket, I totally forgot what to do and even forgot the words that I’ve practiced! Oh my God, I forgot my line! Despite that, I tried to remain calm and thought I would just be myself. When I finally felt the butterfly tickles were gradually subsiding in my stomach, I quickly blurted out the question.

Then she said “YES” - it felt so blissful that none of the troubles occured earlier mattered.
